- The
KBAP opens its international postgraduate course
program for young physicians on November 2, 2009. The
first one month course ends on November 10, 2009. The
scientific program consists of the following
subjects:

- Lectures
on general pediatrics, infectiology, immunology and
diagnostic imaging will be given by renown visiting
professors from Switzerland. Tuberculosis, Dengue
fever, malaria, Japanese encephalitis virus infection
(JEV) and HIV (especially blocking the vertical
transmission) will be taught by the professorial staff
of Kantha Bopha Children's Hospitals and Maternity.
These instructions will focus on the theoretical and
practical aspects (logistics) of infectious diseases
in poor and tropical countries.

- The
course program includes a thorough introduction into
the organization and management of a children's
hospital and maternity in a poor and tropical country.
Planning, construction and running of such hospital
will be discussed by Dr. Beat Richner, founder of the
Kantha Bopha Children's Hospitals. The philosophical,
moral and economical issues involved will be
addressed.

- Regular
observation of medical activity at the Kantha Bopha
Hospitals under supervision by tutors is integrated in
the course program. (Including diagnostic imaging with
X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT and MRI).

- Interested
young physicians need to submit electronically an
updated CV including a certificate of the final
medical examination recognized by their country of
residence with a brief certification of their actual

The Kantha Bopha Hospitals are providing medical care
for 85% of all Cambodian children. Inpatients and
outpatients receive treatment free of charge. The
Kantha Bopha Hospitals being equipped by facilities,
medicines and drugs of western standard have been
recognized for their best relation costs/healing rate
worldwide. While large amounts of money are spent
throughout the continents without proper impact,
adequate use of finances might allow for dozens of
Kantha Bopha type children's hospitals, according to
expert's estimates. The question raised by these
experts is: Where would the doctors come from that are
able and willing to do this job? The KBAP intends to
inspire and educate young doctors who might thus be
motivated and prepared to take on a more demanding
humanitarian task.
